Cincinnati’s Williams Named Player of the Week
TAMPA, Fla. – The PDL announced its Team of the Week for the ninth week of the 2012 season today, honoring Cincinnati Kings forward Stephen Williams as Player of the Week after he scored four goals in his side’s 5-2 victory against the River City Rovers on Tuesday, June 26.
Williams, a former Jamaican youth international, struck first in the 21st minute, cancelling out the Rovers’ early goal, before adding his second two minutes later. River City pulled even before halftime, but Williams completed his hat trick, giving the Kings the lead for good, three minutes into the second half.
Williams then assisted on Loen Powell’s goal in the 68th minute before adding a fourth goal himself 10 minutes later. It was the second time this season a PDL player had scored four goals in a game, the first being Austin’s Kekuta Manneh, who did so in the Aztex’s 7-0 win against the Texas Dutch Lions on May 24.
Williams was joined by another pair of players who had standout weekends in attack, with Reading United’s Deshorn Brown notching four goals in two games as his side took a pair of wins against the Bermuda Hogges and Brooklyn Knights. Orlando City U23’s McKauley Tulloch completed the trio thanks to his hat trick in the Lions’ 5-3 win against the Mississippi Brilla last Friday night.
